    Hearthstone is a strategic trading card game much like Magic The Gathering. It is themed in the World of Warcraft universe and features heroes and the style. The gameplay is very simple to learn and pick up yet offers a reasonable amount of depth with the variety of strategies, decks and card combinations.

  • Smite

    Smite is a MOBA style game like DOTA 2 or League of Legends with the unique feature of being played from third person. The goal of the game is the same as other MOBAs with the primary game mode featuring 5 vs 5 teams trying to destroy each other's towers and base. The standard MOBA roles are in place such as support, ganker, carry etc.

    The third person perspective is a nice twist and makes you feel as if you are the actual god. All of the skills including auto attacks are skill shots, requiring you to aim your target. Definately worth checking out.

    Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Online Online is a third-person perspective multiplayer action video game. You can pick from 3 Classes of Ghosts - Assault, Specialist or Recon to suit your play-style and battlefield strategies. Deploy Class-specific Abilities to gain the upper hand against your enemies.

    RuneScape is a fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) . RuneScape takes place in the world of Gielinor, a medieval fantasy realm divided into different kingdoms, regions, and cities. Players can travel throughout Gielinor via a number of methods including on foot, magical spells, or charter ships. Each region offers different types of monsters, resources, and quests to challenge players.

    TERA has typical MMORPG features such as questing, crafting, and player versus player action. The game's combat uses a real-time battle system that incorporates third person camera view. The player targets an enemy with a cross-hair cursor rather than clicking or tabbing an individual opponent.

    Planetside 2 is a massive multiplayer first person shooter game. You play in a huge map with thousands of other players. There are a variety of classes and weapons to choose from. You level up your character as you progress while upgrading your weapons and equipment.

  • DOTA 2

    DOTA 2 is a MOBA game much like League of Legends. You are in a 5 versus 5 battle to destroy the enemy's base and protect your own. The game has a reasonably difficult learning curve since there are so many different heroes to choose from and a lot of basic concepts to understand initially. Luckily the game includes a tutorial mode and you can play against bots before you jump into the main game. This game can be intimidating at first but it is definately worth the time investment,

  • Mechwarrior Online

    MechWarrior Online is a real-time game where one day in the real world is equal to one day in the game. January 1, 2012 is equal to January 1, 3049. Players take the role of piloting BattleMechs, and can align themselves with one of the Great Houses, form their own Mercenary Corporation, or play as a lone wolf. Of note for this particular timeline in the MechWarrior universe is the impending arrival of the Clans upon the Inner Sphere Houses.

  • Star Wars The Old Republic

    SWTOR is a MMORPG set in the Star Wars Universe, set after the timeline of Knights of the Old Republic. You can play as part of the Sith or the Republic as one of eight classes including Trooper, Jedi Knight, Jedi Consular, Smuggler, Bounty Hunter, Sith Warrior, Imperial Agent, and Sith Inquisitor.

  • Hawken

    Hawken is a mech based shooter featuring fast paced strategic action. The game is played from a first person perspective where the player takes control of a mech bot with cannon based weapons. There are a variety of game modes including standard deathmatch type mode and a siege game mode.

  • Wing Commander Saga

    Set in the Wing Commander 3 timeline, Wing Commander Saga is fanmade sequel to the Wing Commander series. It is built on the Freespace 2 engine. A great space shooter that is definately worth picking up. Note the tutorials were made well before the main game as a seperate campaign so you might notice differences. If you loved the original Wing Commander games dont miss out on this one.

  • Path of Exile

    Path of Exile is an action RPG very similar to Diablo. It is much closer to the gameplay of Diablo II rather than Diablo III, which in my opinion is a good thing. The game features great graphics and six character classes which include the Marauder, The Ranger, The Witch, The Duelist, The Templar and The Shadow.

  • Heroes and Generals

    Heroes and Generals is a hybrid FPS & RTS game. There is a strategic mode where resources can be assigned to parts of the battlefield and an FPS mode where players take place in squad based combat. The game features a variety of vehicles such as tanks which can be utilized on the battlefied.

  • Airmech

    Airmech is a MOBA style game like DOTA or League of Legends. You take on the role of a robot which can transform between flying and mech modes. It contains a mix of RTS as well what you find in other MOBA games. You can use your money you collect from outposts and augments to upgrade and purchase troops and units.

  • Tribes Ascend

    Tribes ascend is a multiplayer first person shooter with a strong focus on mobility. One of they key game mechanics is skiing, which can be achieved by switching to glide mode and sliding down slopes to build up speed. You can achieve extreme speeds using this method.There are 9 different classes which vary in utility from speed, heavy weapons, and stealth. The production quality is top notch and is on par with commercial games.

  • Aion Ascension

    Aion Ascension is a free to play MMMORPG which was previously subscription based. One of the coolest features of this game is the ability to fly. Eventhough you can only glide in certain area, there are other areas where you can fly freely. The classes in the game follow the standard RPG archetypes.

    The graphics are very high quality and there is a large amount of content in the game to explore.

  • Star Trek Online

    Take on the role of a starship captain. Explore worlds, take on missions and lead your crew. You participate in space based combat as well as ground based combat. The available classes are Tactical which focuses on squad tactics and combat, Engineering whcih focuses on shields, power, and firearms mods, and science which specializes in techs such as tractor beams. The three different ship types are Cruiser, Escort, and Science Vessel.

  • Warframe

    Warframe is a free to play cooperative multiplayer action game. You can use different weapons such as a shotgun, pistol or rifle. You can manuever with jumps, rolls, and slides as you slice enemies with your sword. As you gain experience, you can purchase upgrades, new weapons and armor.

    The graphics quality of the game is top notch and of commercial quality. The game is played from a third person perspective.

  • Neverwinter

    Neverwinter is a new MMORPG which is based on the Dungeons & Dragons setting of Neverwinter. It draws from its namesakes Neverwinter Nights. The combat in the game is more action based than most MMORPGs. You can block incoming attacks and maneuver around the battlefield while timing attacks for greatest effectiveness. The graphics are solid and for the most part the pay store items are not gamebreaking like many other MMOs.

    It features five classes which fit the standard MMO archetypes. The tank class is a Guardian Fighter which is very durable fighter class which is focused on blocking and absorbing damage. The Trickster Rogue class is the melee DPS class which is focused on manuverability, stealth and dual wielding. The Great Weapon fighter is the heavy hitting melee class. There is also the Control Wizard is the DPS mage class and the Devoted Cleric class.

  • Blacklight: Retribution

    Blacklight: Retribution is a free to play online first person shooter set in the future. You can customize your characters weapon loadout with a variety of weapons in with multiple customizations. There are mech suits which come into the battlefield which you can use which feature some cool weapons.

  • Gotham City Imposters

    Gotham City Imposters is a violent multiplayer game set in Batman's Gotham City. You play the role of a wannabe superhero or villan using all different types of weapons. Ranging from shotguns to bear traps. There is a nice leveling system as well as a good variety of content to keep you entertained for a while.

  • Stronghold Kingdoms

    Stronghold Kingdoms is an online castle MMO where you can build your own fortress. Plan out your stronghold's buildings, join factions, utilize strategy cards and fight against thousands of other players.

  • America's Army

    America's army is a multiplayer combat simulation released by the US Army. You take on the role of a soldier in the army as a member of one of three fireteams.

  • Heroes Of Newerth

    Heroes of Newerth is a team based strategy RPG game on the lines of Defense of The Ancients. It is based of DOTA and has most of the heroes from DOTA with different names and styles.


    ARMA 2 Free is a free version of one of the most realistic battle simulation games on the market. The game focuses heavily on team cooperation and squad tactics. Many different vehicles and aircraft are featured in the game including tanks, jets and helicopters.

    The major drawback to this version of ARMA 2 is the lack of support for HD graphics and user created mods. Another downside is that the single player campaign is absent in this free version. Despite the drawbacks, the game is definitely worth trying if you don't want to shell out for the standard edition.

  • War Inc. Battlezone (3rd Person)

    A new addition to the steam free to play list of games, War Inc. Battlezone is an shooter along the same lines as Call of Duty except in third person. The overall quality and production values of the game seem pretty good overall, however you may encounter occasional artifacts and frame rate issues. There is a decent variety of game modes to choose from ranging from capture the flag to securing locations, much like similar games of this genre.You play the game from a third person point of view, which is different from most games of this type, giving you a wide view of the battlefield.
    Note: This is a 3rd person game but I felt like its worth mentioning.

  • Allods Online

    Allods Online is a MMORPG which seeks to blend science fiction and fantasy elements to create a unique game. The production values in this game are quite solid, looking at it would remind you of playing World of Warcraft. You are allowed to allocate stat points in this game, which is nice for a free MMO.

    Like most games of this sort you will spend a lot of time grinding. However, Allods tries to be more story driven and attempts to drive your leveling through its quest system. You will still be repeating quests over and over, but its an alternative to straight grinding. Once you reach a certain point you can have your own ship which allows you to travel around the game world participate in ship to ship combat. Overall, relative to other free to play games, this game is a cut above in terms of quality, so its definitely worth a try.

  • MicroVolts

    MicroVolts is a third person action game with four characters to choose from and a variety of weapons to use during battle. You can customize your character cosmetically to suit your tastes. One of the neat features is the ability to switch between weapons during battle which adds an interesting strategic element. There are a few different game modes including capture the flag, deathmatch, and free for all. Once you reach higher levels in the game you can unlock better weapons. The game is fun in short bursts, but it may not keep your interest for months on end when compared to a game like Team Fortress.

  • Spiral Knights

    Spiral Knights is a hack and slash RPG where you will travel with your party members through dungeons slaying enemies and collecting loot. The game features fast paced combat with each hero being able to carry two ranged or melee weapons at a time. The main drawback of the game is that you are limited in the time you can play in dungeons each day without purchasing additional play time.

  • NetHack: Falcons Eye

    NetHack is a roguelike game that has been around for many years. Falcons Eye is a graphical overlay on the game allowing for mouse controls. It retains the original gameplay of nethack while adding some convenient features such as path-finding.

  • Need For Speed World

    Need For Speed World is an MMO racing game featuring slick graphics and multiple game modes. You can participate in race events or try to evade cops in pursuit mode. You can use the money you earn to upgrade your car or buy new ones. It can take some time to find a suitable opponent for a multiplayer race and the variety of races is somewhat lacking. Overall, if you like racing games its worth checking out.

  • Forsaken World

    Forsaken World is created by the same studio that created Perfect World. You can choose from 5 races and 8 classes. The graphics quality in the game is very solid when compared to other free MMOs. At level 10 you get to choose from a variety of jobs such as potion making. There are also mounts and pets available to you as you progress through the game. Overall a solid game worth checking out if you enjoy MMOs.

  • Eden Eternal

    Eden Eternal is a fantasy MMORPG featuring cell shaded graphics and 15 different classes. The graphics in Eden Eternal have a very Anime style feel. You unlock new classes as you level up through the game. There are 5 branches of classes, including melee, ranged, magic, and healing/support. Each branch has two to three playable classes. Overall, the game has a cool art style and variety of character development paths making it a great pickup.

  • Dragon Saga

    Dragon Saga is a side scrolling MMMORPG featuring four classes and fast action gameplay. The classes follow traditional archetypes, including Warrior, Thief, Magician, and Archer. You can specialize within your class as you level up. The action gameplay system allows you to dodge attacks and make cool attacks using the combo system, this adds a layer of skill not seen in most other MMOs.

  • Champions Online

    Champions Onine is a superhero MMO where you can choose from a variety of different hero types and battle bad guys. The vast variety of visual choices means that most heroes you encounter will have their own look. The graphics in the game are top notch as this used to be a paid game. There are 13 different power frameworks each with many powers to choose from, you can tailor your hero to suit your specific tastes, everything from martial arts to sorcery. For a free to play game its definately worth a try.

  • Tremulous

    Tremulous is an FPS game with strategic elements where its humans versus aliens. Having two distinct factions with different ways of playing, much like Left 4 Dead, makes the game unique to most FPS games. The graphics and sound in the game are slightly dated, but the extremely fun gameplay makes up for it. There are classes focused on building as well as pure fighting classes. Humans can upgrade their armor while aliens can upgrade their body.

  • Lost Saga

    Lost Saga is an online action fighting RPG featuring a wide variety of characters to choose from. You can equip characters to keys so you can switch between them during battle. The graphics are pretty good for a free game and have an anime style. There many different maps to try out. The game includes a good variety of game modes to keep you entertained including PowerStone, Prisoner, and standard Deathmatch.

  • Savage 2

    Savage 2 is a unique game that blends aspects of FPS games and RTS games. There are two unique roles in the game: Action Players and Commanders. The action players control individual units on the ground fighting for the Legion of Men or the Hordes of Beasts. The commander coordinates his team, acquires resources, and ensures the teams structures are up and running. There are different classes of heroes which fulfill specific roles such as healing or tanking. Overall the unique mix of FPS and RTS comes out nicely, for a free game this is a nice one to pick up.

  • Air Rivals

    Air Rivals is a flying MMO where you are a pilot taking on missions and fighting in a war between rival factions. Depending on which zone you are in, you will encounter player controlled enemy ships ready to blow you out of the sky. You can level up like most other MMOs but there is also a skill factor since you can outmaneuver your opponent if you have superior dogfighting abilities. At the end of the day there is a still decent amount of grinding involved, but its worth a try if you like the idea of flying around and blowing people up.

  • C&C Red Alert

    This is an older RTS game that has been released for free by the studio. In its time, it was one of the most amazing RTS games ever created. You fight on the side of the Allied or Soviets through a wide variety of missions ranging from standard destroy the enemy base to commando missions. The balance and different types of units you find on the two different sides is pretty solid. One of the unique things about the C&C franchise is the live cutscenes, and this game is no different. A fun game to pickup if you want to relive the glory days of the C&C franchise.

  • Pirate Galaxy

    Pirate Galaxy is a 3d space RPG where you taken on missions and battle other players in the gameworld. You have the option of playing the game through a downloaded client or the web browser. Once you start leveling up your character you can improve your ship and make cosmetic upgrades. There are a variety of quests ranging from the standard kill x amount of y to escort missions. The graphics are very high quality, the only drawbacks to the game are traveling between locations can take sometime and loading times can be somewhat annoying.

  • The Last Dance

    The last dance is an indie game that takes place in the mafia times of Chicago in the 1930s. You play the role of John McClain, a former police officer who is investigating the murder of his wife. The game has a unique art style, probably worth a try.

  • Dead Frontier (Browser Game)

    Dead Frontier is the ultimate survival horror MMORPG. Log in and play with thousands of real players from around the globe as you struggle for survival in a zombie infested city.

  • Avalanche

    Avalanche is an action game set in the Final Fantasy VII universe. The game features fast paced hack and slash gameplay played from a third person perspective. Most of the time you will be surrounded by enemies which you will defeat using your weapons and abilities.

  • Pox Nora (Browser Game)

    Pox Nora is a blend between a card game and a tactics game. You face your opponent on a tiled map where you take turns trying to destroy each others base. Cars are used to activate spells, artifacts and units on the battlefield. There is somewhat of a learning curve to figure out which type of decks and tactics are strongest for a particular map.

  • Alliance of Valiant Arms

    Alliance of Valiant arms is an MMO FPS with high production values and fun gameplay. The game features a wide variety of game modes including escort missions and demolition. The game features commercial quality graphics due to running on the Unreal 3 engine. The three classes available are the pointman, the rifleman and the sniper.

  • Phobia

    Phobia is a neat student game I found on DigiPen. You play the role of Max, a monster trying to scare people in the town. The more people you scare the stronger you will become. Your enemy in the game is light, you must avoid it at all costs.

  • Mightier

    Mightier is a 3d game which makes you pull out a pen and paper to solve its puzzles. You print out the puzzle from Mightier, solve the puzzle, then scan it into the game. If you dont have the proper equipment, you can also draw in the terrains in game using a mouse. This is a one of a kind game that is definately worth a look.

  • The Blob

    The Blob is a 3d game where you are a ball of paint rolling around a city. You can paint just about anything in the city. Your primary objective is to paint all the landmark buildings in the ciry. A nice little game that should keep you entertained for a short while.

  • Attack of the 50ft Robot

    Attack of the 50ft Robot is a student game from DigiPen where you control a robot trying to destroy everything in your path. The graphics style is that of an old 1950s movie.

  • Stepmania

    StepMania is a rhythm game along the same likes as Dance Dance Revolution. You try to match up with arrows running on the screen. This game is multi-platform and is moddable and skinnable. You can find a ton of new songs to play if you look online as well.

  • Focus

    Focus is an addictive fun platform game featuring over 50 levels. The game has an old school feel, check it out it is worth a look.

  • Bear Go Home

    Bear Go Home is a platform game with a cool unique art style. You never get to directly control the bear, you can only do things like stretch and squish the bear to help him overcome obstacles. The unique game mechanics make this a great one of a kind find, give it a go.

  • Empyreal Nocturne

    You play the role of head bird, use your skill and the birds in your flock to defeat your enemies. You can sacrifice one of your birds to give yourself a small boost. Manage your flock wisely, although they replenish, you don't want to be caught without a decent defense against enemy attacks. A fun and unique game that should keep you entertained for a short while.

  • Future Pinball

    Future Pinball is a sweet pinball game where you can build your own machines however you want and play them to your heart's content. It uses a good physics engine to model the ball movement. As pinball games go, the graphics in this one are top notch, I dont know of any other free pinball games that can hold a candle to this game. If you like pinball, this is a must have.

  • Ballman Place

    Ballman Planets is an addictive and extremely fun tribute to the classic Pacman game! Of course, there are balls, power ups and ghosts... each of them with different characteristics and behaviour (check out the lovely blind green-ghost!), but also there are many different planets and cool springs that allow you to jump from one planet to another! With its innovative fully mouse-controlled action and stunning 3D maps

  • Lord of The Rings Online

    The Lord of The Rings online has gone free to play. It is an MMORPG featuring everything you expect from a commercial MMO including top notch graphics and high production values. The free edition has a level cap of 65 and a few other limitations but there is still hundreds of hours of content available. A decent pick if you dont mind the limitations.

  • Gravity Bone

    Gravity bone is a unique game played from a first person perspective. The game features a distinct art style. You play the role of a spy taking on secret missions. An entire game can be completed within half an hour.

  • Wurm Online

    Wurm online is a unique MMORPG game featuring a skill based leveling system. You can level up any skill and are not restricted by class. The coolest part of this game is the ability to change the terrain. Players can take it upon themselves to anything from placing trees to building cities.

  • Aika

    Aika is a fantasy MMORPG featuring massive PvP battles. There are three modes for PvP, with fighting on different scales. The game is not lacking in graphics quality, quests, or variety environments. The available classes are warrior, paladin, rifleman, dual gunner, warlock and cleric.

  • World Golf Tour

    World Golf Tour is a realistic online golf game where you can test your virtual golf skills against live opponents. The game features top notch graphics and accurate simulations of a golf course. There are tournament events where you can win prizes but you may have to pay an entry fee.

  • Face of Mankind

    Face of Mankind is a first person Science Fiction MMORPG with heavy emphasis on PvP and crafting. The graphics in the game are a bit dated compared to modern MMORPGs or FPS games.

  • 22 Moon At War

    22 MOON AT WAR is a strategic building game where you run your own mining enterprise. The goal is to mine the ore from the moon of Gliese 581 c and bring it to the planet. Military strength and tactical skills are needed in order to survive the grueling competition. Governments have taken the responsibility for life on Earth for the second time in a row now. The large corporations have pushed their lobbying work to the extent that they can decide on laws regarding life on Earth.

  • Runes of Magic

    Runes of Magic is an MMORPG featuring high production values and everything you would expect from an MMO including a large variety of quests and instance dungeons. The game features a unique dual class system. A nice feature is that you can earn diamonds, which you would normally buy in the cash shop, by selling items on the marketplace. This is better than most free to play MMOs where if you dont have real cash, you are at a big disadvantage. The graphics and variety of content in the game is top notch.

  • Knytt & Knytt Stories

    The Knytt was abducted by an alien! Traveling through space, the UFO flies into a meteor and crashes on a nearby planet. Luckily, the Knytt and the alien survive, but the UFO is a wreck. How can the Knytt possibly find its way back home again? Knytt is a free platform game for Windows featuring exploration, atmosphere, and infinite cuteness.

  • Hero Core

    Flip Hero returns for the final battle against his nemesis, Cruiser Tetron - but can he really stop the reign of the machine warlord for all time? Like the first game, the graphics are black and white, the controls are simple and the gameplay is easy to learn. The nonlinear game world allows you to tackle the boss machines in nearly any order, or head straight for Tetron's headquarters if you're skilled enough.

  • Marvel Super Heroes

    The Marvel Super Heroes remake by SpiDoL is a decent effort developed with the MUGEN game engine, though some text editing is required to get the sound working. Search for the Data folder and change the Sound configuration value in the mugen.cfg file from 0 to 1, in order to enable the sound effects plus some background music. Most of the standard and special moves from the arcade version have been retained, hence veterans should be able to figure out the controls in no time. Some of the new characters are pretty fun to play with as well. Thor is especially impressive, but Carnage is rather cheap and Todd's creation has little powers. A simultaneous team mode also allows all four combatants to slug it out at the same time.
